Peter Pan at Theatre by the Lake
We are all children at heart and like to think back to those wonderful times when we read the children's stories! Now is the time to fly with Peter and Wendy on a magical adventure to Neverland and back, from the safety of the Darlings’ nursery to the underground home of the Lost Boys, the Indians’ encampment, the Mermaid’s lagoon (home of the ticking crocodile) and the pirate ship captained by the dastardly Captain Hook and his fearsome crew!
The tale of the boy who wouldn’t grow up is one of the most famous childhood stories of all time. Theatre by the Lake’s Christmas production, faithful to J.M. Barrie’s original play and novel, will be an unforgettable, spectacular experience for both young and old.
For further details see www.theatrebythelake.com as the play is showing from 28th November right through to the 31 January 2015. If you want to visit and stay with us check out our availability or Contact us now for more information.
Now the clocks have changed its time to think about Christmas
None of us like to think about Christmas too early but if you want to plan ahead now is the time to think about taking in a visit to the Lakes and doing some Christmas shopping.
The switch on of the Keswick Christmas lights on Friday 21st November will be a festive afternoon and evening of lights, music, food and a market. In addition Keswick has added to that magic by creating a Live Advent Calendar. From 1st – 24th December each evening at 4pm there will be a festive event happening in Keswick.
Why not plan a visit to the Lake District and do some of your Christmas shopping at the same time and get those traditional gifts and local produce that will make ideal presents.

Autumn and all its splendid beauty
Now that we are officially in autumn this is a good time to enjoy the rich wonderful colours of the countryside as all the leaves show all their bright vivid colours before winter arrives.
Why not come and enjoy the fantastic sights the Lake District has to offer, they are not quite as dramatic as New England in the 'fall', but equally picturesque. If you take some great photographs why not send them to us and we will be more than happy to place them on our website.

Howe Keld raises over Ł10000 to help endangered species!
By 1910 due to persecution and collecting the Osprey became extinct in the British Isles, also with the introduction of the North American grey squirrel our native Red Squirrel sadly reduced in numbers and areas due to the disease carried by the grey variety.
The good news is that the Osprey has become a symbol of conservation and between March and October the Osprey can be seen at their nesting site near Bassenthwaite. Our Red Squirrel in the Lake District is also making a comeback with greys being reported and controlled allowing our beautiful native red to flourish again.
We are grateful to our guests in helping us to raise this large amount so we can continue to support the conservation efforts and enjoy these two wonderful creatures in our area.

Jennings Riverside ride taking place 25 May
16th May 2014 The Jennings Rivers Ride reveals some of the UK’s finest scenery and cycling terrain from the heart of the Lake District all the way out to the Irish Sea. It’s a series of four bike rides which start and finish in Keswick.
The Rivers Ride is a charity fundraising event. All the proceeds from this year’s ride will go towards our Foundation Grants programme. This year we’re challenging rider’s to raise at least Ł125 each to provide over Ł180,000 for grant making across Cumbria.
It’s called the Rivers Ride because sections of each route follow the affected river courses and criss-cross over many of the bridges that were either destroyed and replaced, or badly damaged during the floods in 2009. The Community Foundation was at the heart of the response raising Ł3m to help people affected. You will not be riding like the guy opposite near Keswick but the scenery will be just as stunning!

Autumn is coming
26th September
Now that the summer is over and the autumn is upon us the weather is getting cooler and the nights darker, the plants and trees are slowly changing from the bright greens and yellows of the summer to the tranquil autumn reds and browns.
The busy crowds that the Lake District attracts in the warmer summer months are getting smaller which makes it in my opinion the best time to visit the Lakes, it may be colder but the peaceful atmosphere and the beautiful sights and colours really make up for it.
If you would like to make a booking for the autumn months or would just like some more information please contact us or click here for availability.

A Great Update from Nurture Lakeland
26th February
Great news! We have just been updated from Nurture Lakeland that with help from our guests, we have raised to date a total of Ł7802 which will go ahead to help our chosen projects, the Osprey Project and Red Sqiurrels in Northern England.
This is truly a great effort and we thank all our guests who decided to make the Ł1 per person donation during their stay with us. We at Howe Keld are also commited to match these donations from those who stay 3 night stays or longer. It really shows how far Ł1 a person can go to give much needed help and funds to these environmental projects.
At Howe Keld we are commited to reducing our and our guests effects on the Environment by trying to be as "green" as possible. to find out more about the measures that we are commited to please take a look at our Green Policies.
