Lakes Alive Festival

This year’s Lakes Alive Festival has been announced and will be taking place in the second week of August from Friday 9th to Friday 16th. Also the flagship festival of international street arts, Mintfest will be taking place the last weekend of August from Friday 30th to Sunday 1st September.

With breathtaking and original acts taking part from across Europe and beyond the lakes alive festival is not to be missed, suitable for all ages and with the vast majority totally free this festival will be a week you won’t forget.

Made up of three main shows doing a handful of performances spread out over the lake district you are sure not to miss out even if you would like a day or two in between shows to relax or visit one of the many beautiful places the lakes have to offer.

XARXA : EL FOC DEL MAR

Prepare to be spell-bound by the magic of one
of Europe’sleading outdoor Theatre groups,
Catalan company Xarxa Teatre as they perform
their spectacular Fire of the Sea show at
Whitehaven Harbour on the 9th and 10th of August.

 AUDIBLE FORCES

OCM and Oxford Brooks SARU present Audible Forces
- an intricate landscape of musical installations powered
by the wind. Intriguing kinetic, sonic creations produce
other-worldly sounds as nature’s unseen force breathes
life into them, visiting The Lake District Visitor Centre
at Brockhole (between Windermere and Ambleside)
on the 10th, 11th and 12th of August.

LAKES ALIVE TOUR

Prepare to be amazed and inspired as Lakes Alive returns to Cleator Moor with a double-bill of performances from La Famille Goldini (France) and Motionhouse (UK). Visiting Millom on the 14th, Cleator Moor on the 15th and Whitehaven on the 16th.

Motionhouse Dance presents Captive: Captive is a breathtaking and intoxicating dance piece performed by four dancers inside a large cage. Disorientated and shaken, they use all of their skill and instinct to survive a dazzling performance at breakneck speed. Powerfully physical, emotionally charged and an extraordinary blend of dance and aerial work, Captive is inspired by Rainer Maria Rilke’s poem The Panther.
La Famille Goldini presents Travelling Palace: Travelling Palace is a family cabaret show that falls somewhere between circus, cabaret and fairground amusement.

A cabaret act that’s been passed down from generation to generation has recently closed its doors but, never wishing to give up, Mr & Mrs Goldini have hired a trailer and turn up in West Cumbria to continue the legacy of the fantastic show.
