Directions to Howe Keld, Keswick
TRAVELLING TO HOWE KELD BY CAR
Exit at junction 40 and take the A66 west towards Keswick – about 18 miles. Enter Keswick by way of the A591 roundabout (second Keswick entry). Go along Crosthwaite road past The Pheasant pub on your right for about 600m until you reach the T junction. Turn left and continue for another 600m past the Pencil Factory and Rawndsley Centre on your left and over the river Greta bridge until you reach the mini roundabout. Turn right into Tithebarn Street. Booths supermarket will be on the right almost immediately. This road will eventually take you to the New Theatre and Borrowdale. Travel about 500m and you will see Howe Keld and The Heads on the right opposite the main Keswick car park to your left. We suggest you park outside the front door to offload luggage before parking the car.
From Grasmere
On passing the Keswick sign follow the A591 down into Keswick. Proceed along by the river Greta on your left through Keswick town centre past the police station and the post office on the left before arriving at the mini roundabout described above. Turn left into Tithebarn Street and as above.
PARKING AT HOWE KELD
There is a car park to the rear with space for 6-7 cars, parking options to the front which is available between 4pm and 10 am, and unrestricted parking in Keswick along the Heads.
TRAVELLING TO KESWICK BY TRAIN
Penrith, the gateway to the northern Lake District and Keswick, is on a regular and fast train service between London and Glasgow/Edinburgh. Once at Penrith, catch a bus, the X4/X5 to Keswick. View this timetable in the next section.
Alternatively, if you are flying into Manchester, there is a regular train service between Manchester airport and Penrith, and then a bus to Keswick.
TRAVELLING TO KESWICK BY BUS
There is a wide range of bus services to and from Keswick from a number of destinations, in and out of the Lake District. The X4/X5 service that runs between Penrith and Workington is the one to use if travelling up by train.
