David and Valerie Fisher and family know what they like when it comes to choosing a place to stay Howe Keld room keyswhen on holiday themselves and they bring that concept to Howe Keld. In a previous life, David worked for two ‘hotels of the year’ – Sharrow Bay on Ullswater and Gravetye Manor. He then spent many years managing restaurants for ‘Cranks’, the leading vegetarian chain in London. Valerie trained as a home economist, taught food and nutrition and co-authored two of ‘Cranks’ vegetarian cookery books.
 
"We are both outdoor types and love fell walking and cycling. . . when we have the time!"
 
“At one stage two years after we got married we packed in our jobs and took six months to cycle round France. We then backpacked from Lake Geneva through the French Alps to Nice,” says Valerie. “It was a fantastic experience.”
 

Our love of the mountains (and happy memories of childhood holidays in the Lakes) brought us to theThe bedrooms are over three floors, many with tremendous views of the fells Lake District 15 years ago and we bought Howe Keld three years later. Unfortunately (or fortunately from the guests’ point of view) our ongoing commitment to Howe Keld and to ensuring that our guests have a wonderful stay means that we don’t take to the fells as often as we would like!

 
Still, there is the consolation we do get tremendous satisfaction from our work.
